Department of Energy's Office of Clean Coal Awards Engineering Support Services Contract to TMS, An Affiliate of The National Interest Security Company
FAIRFAX, VA, January 26, 2009 – A contract to assist the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in the management and planning of its Clean Coal Program has been awarded to Technology & Management Services, Inc. (TMS), a portfolio company of National Interest Security Company, LLC (NISC).
The five-year (36-month base, with two one-year options), $19 million contract supports DOE's Office of Clean Coal’s (OCC) mission to ensure the availability of affordable domestic energy with near-zero emissions to fuel economic prosperity, strengthen energy security, and enhance environmental quality. TMS, a member of the NISC Mission Services vertical, will provide engineering services, primarily for strategic and program planning, analysis and evaluation; technical analysis; technical communication and outreach; environmental, safety, and health functions; and financial, budget, management analysis, and administrative support.
The continued use of coal faces critical environmental challenges related to air emissions, particularly carbon dioxide and its relationship to global climate change. Overcoming these challenges will require innovative strategies that will be developed in unison with the private sector and DOE’s academic partners worldwide.
Andrew B. Maner, CEO of NISC, said, "TMS has been an active provider to the Department of Energy, supporting a wide variety of DOE program offices for over three decades. We appreciate the trust placed in us and are committed to helping the Office of Clean Coal achieve its goal of developing solutions for cleaner, more affordable, and more efficient forms of energy – a goal emphasized by the Obama administration."
"TMS is extremely pleased to have been selected to provide continued support to this critical mission," said TMS President Keller Staley. "We will dedicate all resources necessary to assist the OCC in reaching its goals and sustaining the trend toward greater efficiency and environmental quality."
TMS Senior Technical Director John Stone said the award "acknowledges the dedicated customer service our employees have provided to OCC over the past 25 years." TMS began its relationship with DOE in 1984, supporting the Clean Coal Technology Demonstration program, which eventually became the Office of Clean Coal. "We look forward to providing timely, professional services to OCC over the life of this contract."
Joining TMS in supporting the OCC contract is teaming partner Leonardo Technologies, Inc. (LTI) and several subcontractors, including ADW, Inc. and NexGen Systems.
